Jenken Biosciences Allowed for Compounds To Treat Crohn’s Disease

The patent application of US 2009/0169508 was allowed on May 19, 2011. This application is a divisional patent application of US 7501433. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has allowed Jenken’s key compounds for the treatment of Crohn's disease and liver damage caused by hepatitis at a daily dose of from 2mg to 100 mg.

Crohn's disease, a serious gastrointestinal disorder. There is no effective treatment of Crohn’s disease available on the market, despite the recent anti-TNFa biologic agents such as Remicade which are associated with rare yet serious side effects including opportunistic infections and lymphoma. TLR4 expression on intestinal epithelial cells is upregulated in patients with Crohn's disease. This approach will provide a first-in-class approach to the therapy of Crohn’s disease.

Despite of the development of specifically targeted antiviral therapy against HCV (STAT-C), the new triple combination therapy (the addition of a protease inhibitor to peginterferon and ribavirin) can increase SVR ( to 60-70% for patients with Genotype 1) of HCV (hepatitis C virus) patients with no effects in treating existing liver injury or chronic liver disease associated with HCV infection. Many patients with chronic hepatitis C will require alternative therapies to prevent disease progression because of non-response to, intolerance to and relapse from interferon therapy. Chronic liver disease associated with infections of HCV and HBV is still an unmet medical conditions.
